Not many are aware that the things we do everyday have a direct impact on our general well being. Skipping breakfast, over-indulging in alcohol, smoking cigarettes, eating high-fat and processed foods, and not sleeping enough are just some of the habits that contribute to sluggishness, stress, fatigue and a wide variety of other conditions. What's more, these bad habits, if not immediately avoided, can ultimately lead to premature aging and the development of severe illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure and even cancer.

So if you want to continue feeling young, have flawless skin and live longer, you better shape up and start following these five habits:

Start Your Day With A Healthy Breakfast

The most important meal of the day is breakfast, so you should never skip it. Your breakfast doesn't really have to be complicated and grand. A bowl of oatmeal, a piece of meat and a glass of milk or freshly squeezed juice are all you need to keep your body ready for the day ahead. Just make sure that you do not eat foods that are high in sugar and fat during breakfast or any time of the day for that matter.

Go Easy On Sugar And Caffeine

A lot of people wonder why they keep on gaining weight and feeling sluggish even when they have cut back on unhealthy foods. Well, most of the time the culprit is their choice of drink. It is important to note that soda, high-sugar fruit juices and energy drinks, and cups of sweetened coffee are beverages that are high in calories and sugar. These beverages not only promote dehydration, but also deplete your energy in the long run. You may want to try drinking more water or green tea instead of your favorite caramel macchiato or a can of soda.

Plan Your Meal

If you want to eat less fast food, Chinese takeouts or candy bars, you need to plan your meals and snacks in advance. It would be best if you have to prepare all your food for a week. This will not only help you save a lot of money, it will also make you more conscious of the types of food you put on your list. You do not have to prepare gourmet or very complicated dishes. Keep your list simple and choose foods that are easy to prepare and store.

Make A Conscious Effort To Exercise

The body is created for physical action and not for sedentary living. In order for your body to be totally healthy, you have to perform physical activities like running, brisk walking, stair climbing and swimming for at least 30 minutes a day. There are a lot of ways in which you can incorporate exercise in your daily life.

Skipping the elevator for the stairs, parking a block or two away from your destination, walking your dog, playing Frisbee with your friends during weekends, bringing a bike instead of a car when going to nearby places, walking around in the office every two to three hours and exercising or stretching while you are in your cubicle are changes that can be very helpful in keeping you fit.

Pay Attention To Your Skin

If you want to look and feel young, you should never forget to take care of your skin. Use sun block every time you step out of your house each morning, put on moisturizers on your face and body to keep them hydrated and soft, and exfoliate every once in a while to help boost circulation and prevent spider veins and cellulite.
