A Person with Autisme

I read about Autisme, one of five pervasive development disorder results from maturation-related changes in brain system. Autisme is known as neurological differences disorder that affect a person's mind development. It's still a mysterious disease, but literally affect a person's social life and the way he/she think. The autisme kids intend to be labeled as weird, and sometimes, they live in the world of unknown. They live with their own ways, their own life, without considering others.
1:500 of Malaysian kids have autism and now about 47, 000 in Malaysian live with autism. 4-5% of autisme's person lose the capability of understanding surroundings, except themselves. - Harian Metro

The autisme problem can be detected on a person since infant. They're different compared to normal kids. They deficits in communication and social interaction, preoccupation with fantasy, and abnormal behavior, such as repetitive acts and excessive attachment to certain objects.

No, or less social capability, such:

They keep ignoring others.

They're not sensitive towards feeling and surroundings.

They tend to not showing expressions when talking, not even staring at the eyes.

They're prefer not to be hug or touched.

Hard to corporate, sharing or waiting on something.

They prefer to play alone.

They're not interested in imagination games.

No, or less communication skills:

They have problems in talking and understanding words.

They can't communicate well. Some never learn to speak or develop very limited speech. They may say “you” when he means “I” and produce incorrectly formed sentences. (Okay! This scares me., )

They talk in weird tone.

Problem in starting a conversation.

They keep repeating the same word over and over again, but don't really understand the meaning.

Austism with Asperger tends to act and talk like adults/mature person.

Problems in thinking

They keep repeating the same thing and cannot accept changes.

Having a hard time to remember, and easily forget.

Weird interest, such mobile gadgets, etc.

Sensitive with smell, taste, and sound.

They cannot stand still.

They keep showing interests like adult/mature person.

They way they act:

They prefer to be alone.

Passive - they're having a hard time to understand their surroundings, and easily get involved in other's problem.

Less social skills.

They're active (some hyperactive) but love attentions.

Having this kind of problem makes individuals with autism hard to focus on doing something and having a hard time to memorize important facts. It's no doubt that autisme have a tough life to live in this world.

Some individuals with autism get jobs and live as a normal adults. They often succeed in jobs that emphasize specific skills than those that require interactions and communications. Parents should have a diagnostic test on child for autisme problem. Here DSM-IV diagnostic I copied down:

A. The patient fulfills a total of at least 6 criteria from the following 3 lists, distributed as indicated:

1.Impaired social interaction (at least 2):

Markedly deficient regulation of social interaction by using multiple non-verbal behaviors such as eye contact, facial expression, body posture and gestures

Lack of peer relationships that are appropriate to the developmental level

Doesn't seek to share achievements, interests or pleasure with others

Lacks social or emotional reciprocity

2. Impaired communication (at least 1):

Delayed or absent development of spoken language for which the patient doesn't try to compensate with gestures

In patients who can speak, inadequate attempts to begin or sustain a conversation

Language that is repetitive, stereotyped or idiosyncratic

Appropriate to developmental stage, absence of social imitative play or spontaneous, make-believe play

3.Activities, behavior and interests that are repetitive, restricted and stereotyped (at least 1 of):

Preoccupation with abnormal (in focus or intensity) interests that are restricted and stereotyped (such as spinning things)

Rigidly sticks to routines or rituals that don't appear to have a function

Has stereotyped, repetitive motor mannerisms (such as hand flapping)

Persistently preoccupied with parts of objects

B. Before age three, the patient shows delayed or abnormal functioning in 1 or more of these areas:

Social interaction

Language used in social communication

Imaginative or symbolic play

C. These symptoms are not better explained by Childhood Disintegrative Disorder or Rett's Disorder.

Yet there are almost no cure for the problem, but treatments can be made. The most important thing is; they need educational treatment in self-management, and social skills. Medication treatment for autism includes supplements of vitamin B6 and magnesium.

To me, this problem with continuously increase as world now comes to the technology era, as we have less exposed with the community. It's all about digital life. Maybe it'll help the way they think, but this won't be helping them to get better position in social life. Genius may be an abnormality.

Ps: Heard that, Albert Einstein, Bela Bartok and Bill Gates. They're all share the same problem, which was Asperger symptom, one of autisme disorder, but they success with respects.
