Pain In The Flanks
Pain in the flanks can be divided into 4 types: Patients with pain in the flanks due to accumulation of liver Qi may suffer from belching and wandering distending pain in the flanks, punctuated with emotional disturbance; patients of this pain due to blood stasis may suffer from fixed pricking pain, worse at night, and dark purple tongue proper; patients of this pain due to damp-heat pathogens in the liver and gallbladder may suffer from bitter taste in the mouth, chest distress, poor appetite, nausea, vomiting and red eyes; and patients of this pain due to deficiency of liver Yin may suffer from dull and lingering pain in the flanks, dryness in the mouth and throat, dizziness and blurred vision.
This is a common symptom in patients of chronic hepatitis and early-stage cirrhosis of the liver in Western medicine.
Recipe 1: White plum blossom 3-5 g and rice 50-100 g.
Administration: The white plum blossom is added to the rice gruel, and further boiled for a short time for oral intake with meals.
Indication: This gruel is used to treat pain in the flank due to stagnation of liver Qi.
Recipe 2: Xiebai (longstemen onion) 10-15 g (or fresh onion 30-60 g), 2 stems of green onion and wheat flour 100-150 g (or rice 50-100 g).
Administration: The first 2 herbs are cut into small bits and mixed in cold water with wheat flour to make a paste or to make gruel with rice for oral intake.
Indication: The paste or rice gruel is used to treat pain in the flank due to stagnation of liver Qi.
Recipe 3: Fresh mushroom 100 g, lean pork 100 g and a small amount of table salt.
Administration: The above materials are boiled in water to make meat soup for oral intake with meals.
Indication: The meat soup is used to treat pain in the flank due to deficiency of liver Yin.
Recipe 4: Peanut 150 g, beef 250 g, red bean 200 g and garlic 100 g.
Administration: The above materials are. boiled in water until the beef is well done for oral intake of meat and soup twice a day for 20-30 days.
Indication: The beef soup is used to treat pain in the flank with poor appetite, weakness of body and diarrhea due to accumulation of liver Qi.
